Camino de Santiago

The Camino de Santiago pilgrims’ way, First European Cultural Itinerary and a World Heritage site, is one of the most travelled tourist routes for visitors who want to discover the history, art and culture of La Rioja.

Since the discovery of the tomb of the Apostle Saint James in Compostela in the 9th century, this Route has served as a path for the interchange of new ideas, techniques, cultures and ways of life between the regions and villages it crosses.

Logroño is the meeting point of the French Route, which comes from the Pyrenees via Navarre and Aragón, and the Route of Saint James of the Ebro, following the Roman road from the Mediterranean coast, linking Tarragona and Astorga, passing through La Rioja’s former Roman settlements: Alfaro, Calahorra and Varea.
